Barb Hudak
Trumpet
Music has always been a part of who I am. It has been a constant presence in my life and a companion through difficulties and celebrations. I have maintained a trumpet instruction studio for the past 30 years (I started young!) and have been an active musician in the Seattle area throughout.
I’ve enjoyed performing with the Northwest Chamber Orchestra, Auburn Symphony, the Bolshoi Ballet, shows at the Village Theater, the Paramount, the Jazz Police, Bumbershoot, and many weddings, brass quintets, and recording sessions. I have also been the Director of Bands at Cascade High School in Everett, WA, and Tyee Middle School in Bellevue, WA, as well as a coach for the Seattle Youth Symphony. My formal education includes a BA in Music Education from Central Washington University. I was awarded a scholarship to study with the Empire Brass at the prestigious Tanglewood Music Center and have also studied with Tim Morrison, Fred Sautter, and Charles Butler. I have also been the principal trumpet in the Wind Ensemble and played in John Maowad’s 12:00 jazz band.
In addition to trumpet, I earned a certificate as a corporate trainer from the UW, studied and worked in the field of Occupational Safety and Health, and graduated from an ICF-accredited coaching program with a focus on transformational and leadership coaching. I have also focused my coach training on sports psychology and mindfulness in performance. This allows me to effectively coach my students to find their own expression and power through music and have it transferred to other areas of their lives.
Over the years, my students have distinguished themselves by winning awards such as the State Solo Contest, Essentially Ellington Competition, and Lionel Hampton, as well as top positions in All-Northwest Jazz Band, Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble. They have performed with the Seattle Youth Symphony, obtained leadership positions in their schools, and won scholarships to a wide range of Universities.
I believe what makes me unique is my wide range of experience in the instruction, playing, and performance of the trumpet. My style is engaging, educating, and most of all, fun.
Tyler Rogers
Saxophone
Tyler Rogers is a saxophonist/multi-instrumentalist based out of Seattle. Tyler has dedicated his life to music and has been playing for over 18 years. In 2016, Tyler graduated from Western Washington University with a BA in music and a minor in audio recording. During his time at Western, Tyler was heavily involved in the jazz ensembles, making his way into the top groups as the first alto in the top big band, playing tenor saxophone in the top jazz combo, and filling the tenor spot in the wind symphony.
Upon graduating, Tyler immediately found work with several professional bands, some of which recorded their debut studio albums with Tyler as lead saxophone/horn. Tyler made sure he was studying privately with some of the best professionals in the area, including the late Greg Metcalf, Fred Winkler, Mike Allen, Alexey Nikolaev, and Mark Taylor. Tyler has also studied with internationally renowned greats such as Chad Lefkowitz-Brown and Steve Kortyka.
Tyler currently teaches privately out of his own studio at Bothell Music Lessons and works at Skyview Middle School, where he coaches beginning and intermediate woodwinds to sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade band students alongside band director Dan Carlson.
Tyler is an endorsing artist and mouthpiece maker for Claude Lakey Mouthpieces and currently plays with his own band as well as many other groups around the PNW.
